Python was developed by Guido van Rossum in the late 80's and early 90's at the National Research Institute for Mathematics and Computer Science in the Netherlands. It is a high-level, interpreted, interactive, object-oriented, and a reliable language that is very simple and uses English-like words. Reading a program written in Python feels almost like reading English. A Python program is clearly defined and easily readable. Python allows programmers to concentrate on the solution to the problem rather than the language itself. Python is an example of an open source software. Python is a portable language and hence the programs behave the same on a wide variety of hardware platforms and has the same interface on all platforms. Python supports object-oriented as well as procedure-oriented style of programming.
